Short one this week … a reminder to think about and understand your personal currency.

What’s that you ask? Well, what motivates you, and what do you want to get “paid” in. For some this is a straight line to money, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! I was definitely chasing the dollar during parts of my career. But for others, it’s more about other attributes (currencies) … here’s a few:

  • Influence - you highly value the opportunity to be part of the decision making team, driving things forward, ensuring good outcomes are arrived at
  • Impact - you love seeing things play out in successful ways, what you did “made a difference”
  • Fun and enjoyment - it’s all about working with great people, laughing, smiling, feel fulfilled in what you do
  • Stepping stone - what you’re doing isn’t quite what you desire, but it gets you there

The reality is that it doesn’t actually matter what your currency is. But you should be honest with yourself as to what it is.

Be awesome. And nice.
